Training for Department Staff, August 2011
The training program was held on 11th and 12th of August at the Rasimanal and Uganiyam Anti-Poaching camps, hosted by the Tamil Nadu forest Division. Praveen Bhargav, a trustee of Wildlife First, and a member of the National Board for Wildlife and K.M Chinappa, a former Range Officer of Nagarhole National Park from Wildlife First conducted the session for the Hosur forest division watchers, guards and rangers.

Dabaguli Jatre Pollution Control – 2011
Dabaguli is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery lined by hills on the one side from Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a haven for the wildlife, especially the elephants that descend down to quench their thirst. Every year around the time of Shivaratri a gathering of 15-20 thousand people swarm this once peaceful region to be a part of the Jathre organized by the surrounding villages for 2 days. Uniform Distribution for Watchers
Uniforms distributed during the elephant crop damage compensation distribution program. Present Minister of forests Govt of Tamilnadu, Member of Parliament and Member of Legislature of Krishnagiri district, Hosur Municipal chairman, Sub-Collector Hosur, tahasildar, DFO, conservator salem circle, Rangers forest department staff etc.

Global Warming Awareness Program
KANS organised tree plantation for the students of Nalanda School in Krishnagiri. The students and class teachers showed keen interest in planting the 120 saplings arranged by Mr. Thillairasan with support from Mr. Palanisamy, Range Officer, Interface Forestry Range. Laxmeesha gave an interactive presentation on Global Warming. This was followed by the screening of Shekar Dattatri’s The Truth About Tigers.

Training for RFOs
As part of wildlife week celebrations KANS partnered by Wildlife First conducted wildlife protection and enforcement training program for the Hosur forest divısion rangers and DFO. The training program was held on 19th November at the Aiyur eco-awareness camp, hosted by the Tamil Nadu forest Division. Praveen Bhargav, from Wildlife First conducted the training. Around 35 Rangers from the Hosur FD, Dharmapuri FD’s DFO, Hosur FD’s DFO- Ulaganathan and CF (Conservator of forests)- Varadharjalu attended the program.

As part of the wildlife week festivities, KANS conducted a nature camp for the students of Sishya and Titan School, Hosur at Aiyur eco-awareness camp. The idea behind conducting this camp was to bring into sharp focus of the students the area of Melagiri, its history, diversity and to bring into them a sense of responsibility to protect this 1480 sq km area of forest cover falling into Krishnagiri district.
